Recently my in-laws bought me a pair of Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles. I struggle with my balance and coordination on hikes. Let’s just say I don’t look like a natural hiker. Ben breezes up and down the mountain side; boulders, steep terrain, creek crossings, ledges, not much throws Ben off. Not me. Especially carrying Morgan on my front in our LillieBaby carrier while we hike. One of our concerns with me carrying Morgan in front is that if I fall and land forward, she may be the first thing that hits the ground, or a rock, or I may land on top of her. On our last trip I got to test our my new Black Diamond Distance FLZ Poles!
When we were in Ouray, we stopped into Ouray Mountain Sport sporting goods store and looked at some poles. The sales associate told us about the Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Pole and sold us on it! She herself uses them so it was nice to talk to someone who was knowledgable about the poles. We were impressed with how lite and how comfortable the Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles were looking at them in the store. But that was in the store. I was interested to see how they did on the trail.
In Marble, CO this past weekend, my mother-in-law and I tried them out the 4 wheel drive road in Lead King Basin and on Raspberry Creek Trail. The road and the trail both had steep inclines, rocks, uneven ground and a creek crossing. On Raspberry Creek Trail we were able to try the poles on a down hill section.
Using the Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles
I felt as though I was able to keep up a decent pace using the Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles, a better pace than I would have had if I didn’t have the poles on the trail. The poles felt effortless since they are so lite and comfortable. Since these poles are specific to women, the handles fit better in my hand.
The poles were easy to adjust for uphill and downhill sections. I am 5’6” and use the 105-125 cm poles. During these hikes I started with the poles at 110 cm. I adjusted the Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles to 115 cm when going downhill and adjusted the poles to about 107 cm on the uphill section.
The Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles fold up nicely and come with a velcro strap to keep them together. You can store them under the seat of your car or in your backpack. I felt much more comfortable hiking and am excited to do more hiking with my Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles. I would defiantly recommend these poles to hikers of all abilities.
